In Concrete Rose, we meet Seven as a (cute as heck) infant and see Mav flourish into the father we know him to be.
Seven Carter: In The Hate U Give, we see that Seven is wildly protective of all his siblings, and that’s in part of the way he was raised. In Concrete Rose, we learn more about Mav and King’s relationship, and where he fits in the King Lords. King: The last we saw him, King was arrested and expected to be imprisoned for setting the Carters’ store on fire in the name of revenge. We can all agree when we say that Mav and Lisa are a perfect couple, but their relationship was rocky in the beginning, to say the least. She teaches Seven and Starr to be compassionate and to see others with love and understanding. 
His life’s not perfect, but with a fly girlfriend and a cousin who always has his back, he’s got everything under control. We meet Mav as a seventeen-year-old in Concrete Rose.
Maverick “Big Mav” Carter: We know him as the father of Seven and Starr, and he’s a fan favorite due to the way he puts his family above all else. Year: It’s set between the years of 1998–1999, which, yes, Angie has jokingly referred to as historical fiction. While this is set before The Hate U Give, let’s go over a few things before we go back in time to meet Mav as a seventeen year old. Everyone loves Mav and wants to learn more. Everyone will read anything Angie Thomas writes (same, tho). We asked you what you’re looking forward to in this book, and it seems that it’s a consensus that: But when King Lord blood runs through your veins, you can’t just walk away. It revisits Garden Heights from seventeen years before the events of The Hate U Give and follows teenage Maverick Carter when he finds out that he’s a father and is given a chance to go straight. 
As you already know, we’re all excited about Concrete Rose, the next masterpiece from Angie Thomas! If you loved Mav in The Hate U Give, then you’re going to devour this book.
